SITE MAPS: How I Started Thesis:
analyze the site first, always. go to the site if possible, 6am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm.
watch the sun rise and set. feel the wind and breeze. see the rain and drainage. watch the slope and highest elevations. listen to the surroundings. feel the space and the best possible function.
apply your theory, history, tropical design, building tech, building code subjects. determine pwd and service access. determine hazardous areas, best panoramic views, ugly views, loviews <3
imagine the motions, the activity, the waste and garbage collection or recovery. the best plan to attract return of and on investment. the marketing of facade. the cutting of costs by retaining good structures. site furniture and accessories. the 'parti' or design theme/concept all throughout.
then and only then do you start designing the building.
why? because the site will tell you the problems that need to be solved, especially environmentally. neighboring sites will also condition you of transportaion and business opportunities to make your proposal feasible (location, location, location.)
So when your jury bashes your thesis presentation, your defense is based on your time spent studying the site. Remember, no one else knows the site better than you do. Months of study vs minutes of jury's opinion. So make sure presentation is very clear, reflective of the manuscript, not assumption.
